Midsun commissioned us to develop an innovative protective cover system for high-voltage power line disconnectors.

These types of covers are insulating and intended to protect birds from the risk of electrocution when they interact with overhead power lines.

These covers are typically static, so the design challenge was to create a system that would adapt to the complex shapes and movement of the disconnectors.

To achieve this, the concept was developed and prototypes were manufactured using 3D printing, first to scale and then to their actual dimensions, to verify their fit in the field before manufacturing the tooling for mass production.
